Schiaparelli Caramel Velvet Turban Hat

GLAMOROUS INDEED! Sophisticated elegance and classic style define this
beautiful, vintage 1950’s French chapeau by Haute Couture fashion
designer and legendary milliner Elsa Schiaparelli. This hat looks good enough to eat! Hand draped of the softest and most luscious and rich silky velvet ever, poured like rich caramel into layers, tucks and folds, to achieve the perfect turban silhouette. The color is so gorgeous, ….a rich deep caramel hue. (the color is not quite so vibrant in person). The perfect color for an Autumn affair. I believe this is silk velvet, or a silk-rayon blend and is of the very finest quality.
Reminiscent of the turbans of the early 1940’s, with its slightly higher front, softly ruched “double twist”, a row of tiny tucks at the center back bottom, and a recessed top/tip.
The deep crown is a base of French lace pattern net, and the inside/underside has TWO rows of cocoa hued grosgrain ribbon. This hat has an inner structure to keep its shape, and the sides of draped velvet can be pulled down a bit it desired.
Versatile in its look, the turban can be worn pulled down on the face for a more Hollywood glam look, or pulled up to show the forehead and bit of hair (WWII 1940’s style) (we show it both ways).
Signature ivory satin label reads “Schiaparelli, Paris”. Vintage is circa 1952-1958.

have seen in my 35 years of collecting.
CONDITION: Very Good. Clean and fresh. No soiling , no dust, no odors…no moth damage, no
signs of wear, and the inside of hat is clean. It does show very light gae, but the velvet is beautiful, with no spots or flat areas, no crushing or shiny spots. The
only thing is there are few tiny stitches loose along the recessed top, but this is not really noticed and does not effect the wearing of the hat….The velvet on the lower sides is a bit loose and drapes over the ears, and I believe this is the way the designer intended and is not a flaw. May show very light signs of previous use but is overall very good and very clean and fresh.
