Utterly Delightful and a very special find. Vintage early 1940’s, WW II Era fancy evening SNOOD by legendary milliner LILLY DACHE’.
Made of beautiful, hand made, deep pink chenille twist puffballs that dangle on the lattice weave and have a great weight and drape. Nice and wide ….. This vintage snood is long, plush, large and holds a lot of hair …. reaches to the shoulders or below on most ladies. The entire perimeter is attached to a type of covered cording. The label was purposely “hidden” by rolling it and sewing it under so it would not be seen through the open weave (we show it as we found it, and then opened up for authentication). You can wear this 1940’s snood alone, under another hat, or attach flowers or sparkly pins for evening drama.
A perfect example of 1940’s high drama and millinery glamor. This is definitely NOT Rosie The Riveter’s work snood….This is a fancy evening snood. This is so very well made and I have never seen a snood like this one, or made of this unique chenille yarn…. and topping it off….it was designed by Lilly Dache!
During WWII, Lilly Dache was a big proponent of the snood as a fashionable alternative to hats or fancy hair styles. She became known for her high fashion snoods, having them featured in Vogue magazine and other publications. Some were more simple, and some evening styles featured glittering jewels and metallic yarns. I believe she even had a line of patterns for snoods for the budget conscious war wives. I have only seen a few of her original snoods over the past 30 years, making this one a rare gem for your collection.
CONDITION:…I don’t like to ever say excellent, but this really is at least near that. No real flaws to note, other than the label being all curled up and sewn down so it can hide in the open weave. No soiling, no fading, no odors, it is fresh and clean. No snags or wear. Amazingly well preserved.
