Pink 1920s Great Gatsby Hat w Silk Scarf & Flower

This striking chapeau is early to mid 1920’s and has a very deep cloche crown made of a unique custom straw & fabric mix braid in soft blush pink, the crown swathed in silk, with a breathtakingly beautiful French silk crepe de chine scarf drape in ombre’ shaded pinks….embellished on the side with a romantic pink flower with 2 velvet petals and long green fabric stems…..Large size….The brim slopes gently and is edged in pink silk. Fully lined with a black silk taffeta drawstring lining (that really adjusts) and a silk maker’s label which reads “Patten, Boston”.
I can see Daisy Buchanan wearing this hat in The Great Gatsby…..
This hat is all original, with all original trimmings, and is in very good, wearable condition. Inner circumference measures almost 24″, and it fits a range of heads, sitting anywhere from the upper forehead to below the eyebrows, for a proper Flapper “peek-a-b00” effect. Wonderful millinery workmanship. The silk scarf has picot edges, a lovely subtle glow, and a tiny hidden gold gilt stamping which identifies it as made in France and pure silk too!
The silk scarf loops through the deep cloche brim on 1 side, and on the other has a flirty tie drape…the scarf goes under the chin, wimple style…Very unusual for a 1920’s hat, although I did see one with this treatment in a 1919 French magazine a while back…..so the hat could be earlier than 1920, especially with that drawstring liner…..
Definitely a rare style and a hat that makes anyone look pretty when wearing it.
CONDITION: Very Good. Straw is beautiful, excellent with no dryness, no fading or breaks…CLEAN and fresh, supple and strong, with no soiling or odors. Not dusty or aged looking. Edging is excellent. Inside of that is very clean and fresh, and lining is near excellent, no dryness, no splits, tears or holes, and well sewn in place. The silk scarf is very good…looks fresh and is clean with no fading or yellowing,, soft and supple, not dry or weak….1 tiny hole but it hides in the folds of the drape, and also 2 small tan spots at 1 very edge only, and they also hide in the drape. The silk on the front of the crown has 2 very very pale water spots (as if a rain drop fell and she quickly ran for cover) but they are not a detraction and not noticed unless you really are up close and looking for them. Overall the hat is amazingly well preserved and in very very good condition.
