IRENE 1930s Blue Velvet Eugenie Hat w Plume
Striking and oh so romantic!
A simply luscious, mid to late 1930s indigo blue velvet hat with a Victorian flair. The color is stunning, and this rich midnight blue velvet hat is trimmed with a large thick and fluffy midnight blue ostrich plume (actually 2 plumes sewn together and very full). The shape reminds me of a Civil War Era pork pie hat, and also an Empress Eugenie style, with a raised “lip” all around the crown, and a point that dips to the eyebrow on the right side, and another deeper point in the back. Possibly inspired by Great Garbo and her Eugenie hat of Hollywood film fame. The back has a wide blue velvet strap to keep the hat secure and at a sharply tilted angle. There is a beautiful bouquet of velvet “flowers” on the left side. The hat is soft structured, and is lined with a fine black crinoline like material.

CONDITION is very good. Clean, and the velvet has no soiling or stains and no rips or tears. The plume is excellent with no fading or shedding. The inside is clean. The hat looks better on than off as your head gives it the desired shape….The hat shows mild age but is overall very nice.
