Edwardian Willow Ostrich Plume

SOLD!  4/10/2011

Grand, Antique, Titanic Era Willow ostrich plume, circa 1910 to 1913.    Long, dripping flues create a weeping willow effect that looks beautiful at any angle.   Amazingly, this ostrich plume is created by HAND, each long flue is actually 2 flues hand tied together, along the entire length of the feather!   The millinery supply houses of the day had an entire department of dozens of women whose tiny fingers spent all day hand tying these flues to create thick, extra long dense plumes for rich ladies hats.  You can feel the tiny knots along the flues.

We show it placed on hat in a few photos so you can see the scale of this feather plume.  There is a wire sewn underneath to help “prop” up the plume on your hat.  The plume along its stem and to tip of plume is approx  22″ long, and the flues hang deep.  Color is dark glossy black.

Condition is very good.  NO shedding at all, not tangled up, no missing flues, no soiling, no fading or breaks.   Clean and fresh with no odors.  This is actually several stems sewn together, and the very end of the stem is a bit split, but has been wrapped in black thread to secure it.   All in all, very very good.

A very rare, genuine antique ostrich feather plume to adorn one of your Edwardian hats.
