1940s Straw Big Brim w Veiling
SOLD!…
A Beautiful vintage Summer straw Hat from the early 1940’s. Large down-turned kettle brim is nice and wide and the edge is trimmed in beige silk ribbon. The front and sides are swathed in a cloud of light as air, genuine French Silk veiling. Beautiful back view shows 3 huge grosgrain ribbon bows for a classic touch. Unusual straw braid, possibly a mix of natural straw and something else, a very pretty weave and a great color of toasty beige. Shallow crown with an under cap that fits almost any head size, and allows the hat to be worn at any extreme slant or angle and not fall off the wearer’s head (really). Label is, DESMOND’S Southern California. Size tag is size 22 but it fits heads a bit smaller or larger as well.
CONDITION: Very Good…Very well preserved, well stored, very clean, supple, no fading or dryness, and there are no holes or snags, no wear to the hat. The inside is super clean. the bows are excellent with no wear or soiling, and the edge of the hat is also excellent with no soiling or wear. There is a hole in the silk veiling on 1 side, but you could repair it or push the veiling up over the brim to hide that. Except for that, it is in excellent condition. A great hat for your summer vintage Swing Time affairs!
