Hattie Carnegie Copper Beaded & Velvet Snake Hat
EYE CATCHING and perfect for the upcoming holiday season! Glittering hand beaded evening chapeau is covered in hand sewn, Venetian glass copper hued beads that have a fabulous luster. Hand embroidered with coppery satin cording in an exotic undulating pattern that reminds us of a snake or coils. Very dramatic!
Vintage is circa 1948 to 1950. The hat is made of a dense and very fine French silk velvet in a dark chocolate shade. The beading goes all around the hat, and underneath the stylized beret shaped brim. This hat is meant to be worn at a decided tilt angle, which is achieved with two small combs sewn to the under brim. Gorgeous lining is a floral patterned copper satin brocade, and the label reads HATTIE CARNEGIE, with her custom yellow perfume bottle logo. Also there is a tiny tag sewn on which reads “22”. The hat fits a range of heads, and can be worn at a variety of angles.
I can see this hat worn to dinner for any Autumn or Winter event, and all year round. Perfect for the theatre or dancing!
CONDITION: Very good, near excellent. Worn once and then lovingly well cared for and stored in a smoke free home. No soiling, no crushing, shine, or dents to the velvet. All embroidery is excellent, all beads are there and secure. Lining is clean and fresh. The label was curled up and I will press it and take a better photo for you. Overall, very very good, no noted flaws.
