Antique 1920s Flapper Cloche Hat, Straw & Ribbons
A charming antique 1920’s straw and frilly “faux horsehair lace” trimmed cloche hat. Great Gatsby Flapper era, circa 1926-1929.
The hat is constructed of a nice quality, beige hued straw that is fine and lace like, quite feminine and airy. Lightweight, the hat is fully lined in a pale gold satin. Trimmed with pretty and frilly horsehair “lace”, and a large silk grosgrain bow on the side, and ribbon all around the crown. You could wear it plain, or add a vintage flower or pastel hued trim to match your dress or gown.
The color is not so yellow as it looks in the photos, it is more of a beige or natural straw color.
This is a helmet style flapper cloche. MEASURES approximately 22″ around the inside circumference, and the hat fits best on a slightly smaller head as it has to slip over the temples and sit low on the face.
CONDITION: Very Good vintage condition, with a few signs of age, but still lovely as you can see. Shows some age but is clean with no staining or spots to the straw, no odors. Has been stored well. Straw is supple and is not dry or fragile,
and has no splits, holes, snags or breaks. The silk ribbon has some fading, some signs of wear,and in back has a few spots, and a few small tears and snags. but is not dry or fragile. Faux horsehair is very good…..Lining is very good, supple, no dryness or shattering, very clean with no soiling and is attached to the hat firmly. Hat can certainly be worn, and is not fragile, but is antique. Handles well.
