Satin Platter Hat w Rose & Jewels by Noreen
Femininity defined! Lovely, large oval Platter hat in champagne hued satin, edged in velvet piping, with a romantic velvet petal rose and rhinestone embellishments. Vintage is late 1940’s, and this obviously was inspired by Christian Dior and his famous “New Look” platter hats of the same time period. The perfect hat for your “New Look” Era and early 1950’s fashions!
The hat is covered in a pale champagne color satin. Wired brim is quite wide, and the oval shape dips a bit on the sides. Label is NOREEN Fashions. There is a clutch “half hat” underneath to secure the hat snug to your head and keep it at the desired angle of your choosing. The sweet and slightly shabby rose has satin and velvet petals, green wired paper leaves, and two realistic nubby stems. There is a touch of glamor on the opposite side, where the milliner has sewn on some sparkling rhinestone “jewels”. The hat can be worn at a variety of angles, and makes quite the statement.
CONDITION: GOOD. The hat shows mild age, a flaw to note, but is still very wearable. Clean with no odors or soiling. The brim is not bent, and there are no tears or holes in the hat. , but there is some bit of pale sprinkles of age dots on the 1 side. You don’t really notice this unless you get close and really look, but it is there (see last photo). There are a few tiny “dents” or dips in the hat, you can see this in some of the photos, but it is not a real detraction. The rose shows some age as shown, but can be revived with a steaming. The 2 green stems are not cracked or broken. Leaves are a bit aged but still lovely. The underside of the hat is clean, shows only light age. The rhinestones are securely sewn on. I have priced this hat with a low price, as it has slight age, but really it is overall very good, as shown. Even with the age, it is beautiful and fine example of the post WWI millinery fashions.
